Laproscopic Appendicitis Surgery


Appendicitis occurs when there is a sudden inflammation of the appendix. Appendix which a small narrow and finger shaped portion of our large intestine is mostly situated near cecum on the lower right side of the abdomen. Although it does not have a major part to play yet if the appendix becomes diseased and is left without treatment it can result in infection which can prove to be life threatening. That is why the laparoscopic appendicitis surgery is performed. When the appendix becomes swollen there is a risk of bacterias multiplying inside it which can further form pus. Appendectomy is performed to remove the infected appendix.

Types : Appendectomy is performed for the surgical removal of the appendix. It can happen through the open method or with laparoscopic method.

  • Diarrhoea

What you can expect :

Pre & During : The surgeon will make few small incisions in your abdomen after which a small narrow tube known as a cannula will be inserted to inflate the abdomen and let the surgeon have a clear view. The laparoscope and instruments will be inserted and the surgeon will remove the appendix. The surgeon will close the incisions with stitches.

After : the doctors will observe you for a few hours before they discharge you from the hospital. An overnight stay at hospital happens in most of the cases. Very minimal pain will be experienced and the doctors will advise you some medicines. The doctors will also ask you to limit your physical activities to give your body some time to heal. You will of course be called for follow ups.

Results : the recovery after laparoscopic surgery happens on a quick basis and the person can return back to the normal routine very fast.
