Appendicitis occurs when there is a sudden inflammation of the appendix. Appendix which a small narrow and finger shaped portion of our large intestine is mostly situated near cecum on the lower right side of the abdomen. Although it does not have a major part to play yet if the appendix becomes diseased and is left without treatment it can result in infection which can prove to be life threatening. That is why the laparoscopic appendicitis surgery is performed. When the appendix becomes swollen there is a risk of bacterias multiplying inside it which can further form pus. Appendectomy is performed to remove the infected appendix.
Types : Appendectomy is performed for the surgical removal of the appendix. It can happen through the open method or with laparoscopic method.
